can not connect to SQL server

Can any one help? We have set up Win 2003 server with SQL
server 2000 and MS Project server 2002 on one of our
systems and are having problems with some of our folks
being able to login to MS project server through MS
project.

They all are getting the following error codes.
SQL STATE 01000
SQL ERROR 1326

and SQL STATE 08001
SQL ERROR 17

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

All of the systems are remote and log into other servers
on our corporate network.

All upgrades had been performed on each machine and on
the servers. We have TCP/IP enabled on the server.

Would it be help if I forced DNS addresses that the
machine that work use or should I leave them alone.
Possibly it is something else.

Please help, I have been working on this problem now for
2 weeks and I am getting frustrated.

There are several issues that could be causing this:
1) Did you run proxyconfig correctly? This needs to be
run even if there are no firewalls inside of your network.
2) Did you run the COM+ utility or completely enter all
information when installing the products?
3) Have those users been given correct permissions inside
of Project Server?
4) What OS are they using? If NT 4.0 there is a
clientcfg utility that needs to be run.
5) Has the server been set as a trusted connection inside
of their IE?

Any or all of these might be causing these errors as well
as others I can think of. Start with these first and let
me know what you come up with. There is a place on
TechNet that you can search for those error codes to help
you know more about the problem as well. Also, when a
user receives this error, what error message is in the
server logs?

Kevin,

we have checked all of the items that you listed and
everything shows that we have them set up correctly.

We have some folks running W2K, XP Pro, NT4 and Win 98.
1 XP system out of 2 is working
1 NT 4 system our of 2 is working
1 WIN 98 out of 1 is setup and working
5 W2K out of 8 are working.

I really think that it has something to do with our
multiple domains that our folks have to log into and the
firewalls that are attached.

We have set up HOSTS and LMHOSTS to see if that helps
correct the problem so far no luck.

We have exhausted all of the fixes that have been
recommended. All op systems updated to the correct SP,
MDAC 2.8 loaded, IE 6 updated to the latest SP.

Just perplexed as to what is wrong.

I cannot understand why 2 remote people with different OS
can connect and someone that has a similar machine
logging into the same domain cannot.

Call me confused.
