can not create empty web and save as http://

Soooooo frustrating. I am building a web for the first
time. I have selected a corporate presence and selected
the location as http://main. Since I am hooked on a
router and home network I am sure thats why the main is
there. When I try to save I get "you cannot create a root
Web at http://main. If there is a server at that
location , you may create a subweb by specifying a
location such as http://main/myweb.

When I add the myweb to the end I get "could not find a
web server at main on port 80. Please check to make sure
that the web server name is valid and your proxy
settings are set correctly. If you are sure everything is
correct, the web server may be temporarily out of service.

In FP you can create disc based webs or server base webs

Disc based webs a just a folder
(preferably a top level one such as C:\wwwMyWeb)
- limited in that features which require the FP SE will not run locally

Server based web are created under a hosted site running the FP SE
(on your local machine or an online ISP server host)
The local ones are accessed using http://localhost/ or http://machinename/ or http://127.0.0.1/
If your machine (PC) name is "main" you would access it using http://main/
- but in order to do so you need to be running the FP Server Extensions under either PWS (older systems) or IIS
(if you are not, or don't know if you are, then use disc based webs)
If you are, and know how to start PWS or IIS and want to apply the FP SE, see:
