Format | Background was originally intended only for Web pages, and when you
insert a background, you'll note that Word switches to Web Layout view.
Unless you have Word 2003 (which has a setting on the Print tab of Tools |
Options to allow you to print background images), the only way to achieve
this is to save the document as a Web page, view it in a browser, and print
from the browser after changing the browser settings to print backgrounds.
Thank you Suzanne. I am using Word 2003 and found the selection on the
tools/option/print selection. I had background printing checked, but did not
have the other selection for printing background checked.
"Background printing" has nothing to do with printing the background; it
refers to printing "in the background," that is, while you continue to work
in Word.
