Can not recieve mail

I am using exchange 2000 as exchange server and outlook
2000 as client mail software.
I can send mail without any problems but I can not
recieve it until I hit Send/Recieve button.

any clue as to why it is doing that?

Make sure Outlook is not in Off-line mode; File-> Work Off-line
