everytime I double click my icon, I only get the slide show. I cannot get the
correct screen to pop up. I cannot edit any of my slides. I need to get the
correct screen with the tabs on top.

1) Rename the file from .pps to .ppt

2) Or open it with PowerPoint.
Click File > Save As
Under Save as type, select Presentation. Click OK.

A PowerPoint Show (.pps format) will go into the slideshow immediately after
you open the file, allowing you to start your presentation without the need
to go into normal mode before entering the slide show.

If you want to edit PowerPoint Show,
Rename the file from .pps to .ppt.

Or open it with PowerPoint.
Click File > Save As
Under Save as type, select Presentation. Click OK.
See if that is what you want.

Try opening PowerPoint, and then use the File Open option and navigate to
your .pps file
