Has Project the capability to track project net present values ?
Piper,
Technically yes, but Project's strong point is not financial
calculations. Rather, it is tracking basic cost and schedule for a time
based plan.
However if you have a desire to do NPV on certain elements of Project
data, you will first need to identify which Project fields will contain
the necessary data. This data may reside in existing fields or it could
come from customized fields. Then you will need to set up a customized
field with the NPV formula.
Let me offer a suggestion. If Project has all or some of the basic
elements of data you need, why not export this data to Excel and then do
NPV. Excel is much better equipped, (i.e. built-in formulas), to do
financial calculations. The data can be exported from Project to Excel
either via an export map, (see the Project help file on exporting), or
with a VBA macro. The latter offers much more flexibility, but for
simple static data, an export map should do fine.
Hope this helps.
