can receive, can't send any mail

While everything looks normal, every attempt to send mail
from the "New Mail Message" drop-down menu results in the
note getting deposited in the Outbox and an error message
saying "Unknown Error 0x800CCC68". Receiving test
messages sent from within the "E-mail Accounts" function
under Tools works just fine. Any ideas?
