Can wavy underlines be replaced by block highlights

My vision is less than perfect and I sometimes miss the red wavy underline
for spelling errors (I have the same problem with the green underline for
grammatical errors). Is there a way to replce the underline with a block
highlight?

No - but you can press F7 to perform a spell check.
