Can you tell me why my document in word is locked and how to edit.

I am a mew user to this program. Can somebody please assist me. I need to
edit my document in wordperfect 12 and the message that I keep getting is
that this document is locked and it cannot be edited. I am in abit of a rush
because I need to edit this letter and drop it off today. Thank you so much.

This newsgroup is for questions about Microsoft Word.
WordPerfect 12 is not made by Microsoft.

If WordPerfect is complying with the proprietary Microsoft format for .doc
file and supporting the password feature (I don't know because this is a
group regarding Word, not WordPerfect) then it sounds like the original
author (or last person to edit it) added a password to the .doc file to
regulate who can edit it. Go back to whomever is the author or last editor
and ask them what is the password.
