says the internet is not on, and to try again later. i have cable internet
and am always connected. so i dont understand why it is not connecting and

AS of today, there will be no more downloads of either Beta 2 or B2TR software. The site is closed in preparation for its move to the regular Office site. Since the downloads have been withdrawn, I am presuming that the activation servers are also being taken down.

I could be wrong, however.

I would think that the activation server is independant of the Beta download.
Regardless of the ability to get the software, there is a large beta install
base that would be left high and dry as many in here have posted (including
myself), if the activation server were taken offline now. I am sure that you
know as well as I do that beta testers re-install the OS and related software
often, requiring repeated activation of Office. If MS has opted to take the
Office activation server offline now, I think they will find a backlash from
users since Vista beta users want to have the latest Office software. Vista
beta users were promised Windows functionality until June 2007, I don't
believe these users differentiate the Office deadline from the Windows
deadline. Thank you for the information, let's hope that MS makes the right
decision on this.

I decided to go to the Office site (3pm EST) and the Office Beta 2 site is
still up and offerint the B2TR for download. The page also still indicates:

Expiration Date
All 2007 Microsoft Office system Beta 2 software has an expiration date of
February 1, 2007. After expiration, 2007 Microsoft Office system Beta 2 will
continue to work in a reduced functionality mode that limits your options and
operations.

There is no good reason for the activation server to still be down. Let's
hope it gets fixed soon.
