cannot create temporary working file

Y

Yosef

I have a user in publisher 97 (yeah I know it is outdated,
but if we upgrade then we will loose all of our files) who
keeps on getting an error when trying to save that
Publisher cannot create a temporary working file.

I tried restarting, and shutting down the computer, and the
same error keeps on coming back. I'm about to reinstall
publisher, but was wondering if there is a simple solution.

Thanks for any help.

Yosef

Who told you that you would lose all of your files?
Upgrading Publisher 97 to Publisher 2003 does not destroy any of your files,
although a couple of your files may need a little work to make them look
perfect.

Is he/she running on a network?
Is he/she running as a limited user or as a computer administrator?

Thanks for responding Ed,

That is good news that 97 will upgrade to 2003, I noticed
that 98 and 97 weren't compatible so I figured I was stuck.

This is on a network, and she is a limited computer user.

98 will open files from 97 - but the files won't go backwards. The same
applies with 2003.
This is on a network, and she is a limited computer user.
If she is saving to the network, get her to save to the local hard drive and
copy to the network in Windows Explorer. This normally sorts the problem.
A workaround is to do a Save As to the network rather than a Save, although
this is not recommended in the long term as saving directly to the network
can cause file corruption.
Also, make sure she has priveleges to access the temp directories on the
local hard drive.

In my experience 98 will not open 97, and vica versa. In
regards to saving locally and saving as to the network.
The error message still comes up that she can't make a
temporary working space. Even after a restart she is not
able to save in publisher

98 will indeed open 97 files. 97 will NOT open 98 files.

As a restricted user, does she have access rights to the "c:\Windows\Temp"
folder and the "c:\Documents and Settings\<ProfileName>\Temp" folders? What
is the "Start In" value (if any) on the Publisher shortcut set to?
