Cannot get background save to stop.

I do not have the "allow background saves" box checked in the
Tools/Option/Save section; however, I am continuing to get background saves.
As this feature slows down my typing (I do transcription) as it does its
backdround save; I would turn it off. Any suggestions? I have Office XP

I think you may have confused two features. Allowing background saves would
actually increase your efficiency; if Word cannot save in the background,
then you can't do anything in your document until it has finished saving,
but it saves only when you tell it to. I think what you may be wanting to
disable is the AutoRecovery save, which occurs at specified intervals.
Although I would not necessarily advise disabling this, you might want to
set it to a longer interval. For more on the different types of saves, see
