Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'MSP_CALENDARS'

Dan Ross

On occasion, some of the project managers receive the
following message when they save their projects to Project
Server 2002:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server]Cannot insert duplicate key
row in object 'MSP_CALENDARS' with unique
index'I_MSP_CALENDARS'.

What can cause this, and is it anything to worry about?

It's not a happy message. Duplicate keys can stop a database from
functioning. Are your users using copy and paste in projects? How? How about
between projects?

Gary,

Thanks for your timely response. I don't believe they are
copying and pasting between projects, but they may be
within a project. I will have to check. By the way, when
you say copy and paste are you referring to copying tasks
and pasting them somewhere else in the same, or some
other, project? Or is there some other type of copy and
paste that you mean? If they aren't copying and pasting
is there something else that might cause this?

Regards,

Dan

It depends on how they copy tasks. Copying by selecting the row selector
duplicates the unique task id whereas copying a smaller area doesn't have
this affect. The specific error would lead me to look at calendar usage in
your system as well. Do you allow local calendars? Is this happening for
specific projects only? You need to determine the pattern and let that lead
you where it may. I don't have specific guidance and I'm not sure that this
is fixable with news group - level diagnostics.

Gary,

I just checked in the "Manage enterprise features" tab
and "Allow projects to use local base calendars check box"
is on. Should it not be on? I am not sure anyone is using
local base calendars. Is there anyway to tell if someone
is using a local base calendar? This appears to be
happening for specific projects only.

Dan
