Cannot install Office 2007 Upgrade on New laptop with Vista

I have a Dell laptop that is about three days old that came with Vista Home
Standard pre-installed. I tried to install Office 2007 Standard and a
message was displayed indicating that there was no previous version of Office
installed. The message advised that I should insert the CD from my previous
version of Office or "browse" to where the program was installed on my PC. I
tried inserting my Office XP CD, and it was not recognized. I even installed
Office XP and then tried the upgrade and still no luck. Pretty frustrating.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken,

What edition is the Office XP CD? Except for the MS Office Student and Teacher's edition earlier (than 2007) edition original CDs
should be recognized for upgrading.

Thanks for the info Bob. Yep, that was the problem. I have Office XP for
Students and Teacher's. Funny, I checked the list of products that qualify
for the upgrade on Microsoft's site and it said "any version of Office XP".
I worked around it by using the Microsoft Works Suite disc that came with my
laptop (Works does qualify for the upgrade, go figure).
Anyway, everything is working great. Thank again.
