Did your copy of Office 2000 come preinstalled on the old computer?

good question. I'm not positive, but I think not. I purchased Office2000
separately.

by the way, I did a search on "msiexec.exe" and found it in 3 different
places:

c:\windows\Prefetch
c:\windows\system32
c:\windows\software distribution

if that is of any help. Also, the Windows Installer Version Number on this
troublesome file is:

V 3.01.4000.1823

thank you, Jo Ann!!

Can you please follow you original post where you have already posted this issue and you did get answers earlier. Multiposting is not a very good idea.

Like I suggested to you in your original post that the Trial version was not completely removed. Your msiexec.exe that is now resident in your System32 is from the Trial version of Office 2003. When you are trying to install the Office 2000 suite then the installation is reading the msiexec.exe of Office 2003
