Cannot open Word docs in internet browser

When trying to open a Word document as a link from a website I get the following message:

The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions.
- Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
- Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
C:\...\path\filename

I'm unable to right-click and 'Save Target as'

I've tried following the Hotfix as per Microsoft's website but that didn't work either!

Can anyone help?
