Cannot seem to send emails to self/own domain

Hello, I'm using Entourage 2004 v. 11.2.5 on MacBook.

I seem to be having issues sending emails to myself. For example, nothing will come to "(e-mail address removed)" (where that is my username at my domain) if I have that address in the to, cc:, or bcc: fields. Seems to happen with other usernames at my domain too...it doesn't seem to matter what username I'm using, as long as I'm sending from Entourage to my own domain it doesn't work.

The mails show up in the sent folder and appear to send.

We use gmail/google apps for our mail servers and I've used that Web interface to rule out it being the source of the issue. BUt if I send from gmail (compose and send using the Web interface) there to my domain, everything works fine - it immediately shows up in the gmail inbox, and downloads fine to Entourage when I POP it.

I feel like I have backup from a very knowledgeable IT advisor that the problem seems to reside with Entourage. Anyone have any hints or similar experiences? THanks in advance and let me know if any details are unclear or accidentally omitted.

This is probably the Gmail spam filter.

A common means of getting spam through to recipients was to use their
own addresss as the "From" addresses. That use to be whitelisted in many
mail servers. Now, it appears to be more blacklisted than whitelisted.

You'll especially see this problem if you're subscribed to mailing
lists. Many mailing lists will put the address of the original sender in
the "From" field but when the sender's server itself receives the
message it says, "Hmm... it *says* it's from someone in my own domain
but it's *really* coming from another domain. It's spam."

If you're using your own ISP's outgoing SMTP server then be sure to use
Gmail's outgoing server instead.

Also, test in Apple's Mail or any other mail application that's sitting
on a computer right next to your Mac running Entourage. Be sure the
settings are identical. You should have the same results.

Because you are a paying customer then you should be able to bring in
Gmail technical support to assist you with their filter or at least
confirm that their filter is blocking your messages.

Hope this helps!

Here is something I just learned from the Wall Street Journal's web site:

Please note some internet service providers (ISPs) and office workplaces do
not allow emails to be delivered that have the same From: and To: email
address domains. (For example, From: (e-mail address removed) To:
(e-mail address removed) ). If this occurs, please contact your ISP or office
technician.

Does your corporate network have such a restriction?
