Cannot Shorten Doc Name / Map Network Drive

Hello, I cannot open a Word 2003 document because the filename is too long.
Neither can I click on the file name to simply shorten it before opening it.
I get an error that says to use network drive command to shorten name, but I
am not on a network. Can someone help me open this file or rename? Thanks
