Scenario: Upgrade of legal office hw/sw from Windows 95/98
Pentium I and Pentium II machines using Outlook Express 5/6
with NT 4.0 server, to Windows XP Pro Pentium 4 machines
using Outlook 2000 with SBS 2003 server running Exchange
2003. To xfer each person's email messages from old pc to
new pc I copied their .wab and .dbx files to a folder on
the new server. Then after joining their new pc to the new
domain I ran Outlook Express 6 on the new pc, imported the
address and message files into it. Then I ran Outlook
2000, imported the addresses, messages, and account
settings from OE6 into it and setup Outlook with the
Exchange server. The pc's are getting mail directly from
their ISP and Exchange is used only for inside the office
mail and calendaring.
Problem: Seemingly at random, different people are
experiencing the same symptom - when certain messages are
highlighted in Outlook, the message does not display in the
preview pane and when they try to actually open the message
it will not open and they get an error basically to that
effect. There were no problems like this before the
upgrades. Is there some incompatibility between their old
versions and the new ones? BTW, trying to view these same
messages in OE6 gives a message with from, to, and subject,
but no body (a blank message).
