cant access or send emails in outlook 2003

Am i just thick I cannot seem to send or receive emails through outlook 2003

Using the "Send to: Mail Recipient" function within Powerpoint, I, too,
have had difficulty. My laptop is networked and is a "new" one, whereby
we are testing the new standard operating environment (XP, etc.). I
keep getting MAPI errors. But I think this is more of a system issue
than it is for Powerpoint.
