For Trial installations, you must connect to the internet and Activate.
The command "Activate Product" is located on the Help menu.

I just downloaded Visio 2007 as a trial... and cannot drag a background to
the page... also, literally almost everything is greyed out... I can't get
to
the pictures pulldown menu, for example... what do I need to do to activate
it... I installed it less than two hours ago...it looks like a dynamite
product... but how can I use it?
