Can't get outlook to go online

N

Nick Lurie

Sometimes I am unable to get outlook 2000 to connect to
the exchange server; instead it goes into offline mode.
Other Internet applications (IE) don't have this problem.
Sometimes this is fixed by multiple closing and openings
of the program. It can always be fixed by restarting. Any
suggestions?
Thanks!

On Tools - Services - Microsoft Exchange Server - Properties first make sure the seconds until server connection timeout are sufficient.
If that doesn't fix it set the settings to Manually control connection state and make sure Choose the connection type when starting is ticked. This gives you manual control.
If this screen doesn't pop up after restarting Outlook, make sure to end the mapi32.dll process before restarting Outlook, else it "remembers" the last mode.
