Can't get PPT 2000 to work or respond

My operating system is Microsoft Windows Millenium Edition (ME). I have Microsoft Office 97 loaded and need both PPT 97 and PPT 2000. Whenever I try to open up any existing files in PPT 2000, it either opens but won't save (program not responding) or doesn't open at all and hangs up the computer. Does anyone know why this happens? I've uninstalled and installed PPT 2000 and still gets the same results. Thanks for any advice anyone may have.

Are you installing these into the default directories or are you doing a
custom install and choosing a different one. The later is better. It is
also advisable to install versions of software in ascending order (in other
words, install 97 before 2000), which it appears you have done.
