Can't Open 2000 MPP with 2007

I've run into the issue of MPP files created and maintained with Project 2000
not opening with 2007. Has anyone else had this type of issue? Are there
any known best practices for preparing older MPPs to be used with 2007?

Hi Jason,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

There shouldn't be a problem. Have you tried opening 2007 first and then
File/Open...?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike -- Sorry to say that doesn't work. I have a Project Server 2007
infrastructure setup for my customer and I've tried opening the files while
in a "connected" and an "offline" state. I've also tried taking the files to
a completely separate network that simply has a stand-alone installation of
P2K7 Pro installed and I get the same results. These same files
(created/maintained with Project 2000) will open with Project 2003, but they
time out and generate error reports in 2007

Jason,

Have you attempted to save the 2000 version .mpp file with 2003 as a 2003
file.

Then maybe the 2003 .mpp file with 2007.

Seems like I had some sort of issue several years ago upgrading from 2000.
But I can't remember exactly. I had killed alot of brain cells since then.

Unfortunately saving the MPP in 2003 format doesn't work either. I know
these users created these MPP files and added them into Consolidated
Schedules and connected them to shared resource pools. By consolidated
schedules I believe that means they simply linked individuals schedules into
a large master schedule. The user mentions they tried completely removing
the link from the master schedule and removing the shared resource link, but
the 2000 MPP still will not open in 2007.

David/Mike -- thanks for the ideas, this one is confusing. Eventually I'll
give in and use up one of our support calls to MS

Hi Jason,

I didn't realise you were using a server where things are different! Try
posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project
