Can't open a project

I created a project using Project 2007 and saved the file as a 2003 mpp. I am
not getting a message that this file caused a serious error the last time
that it was opened. I am then asked if I want to open the file and I say that
I do. The file never opens and Project becomes non responsive. I have also
tried to enable the file since it shows as disabled but I still cannot open
the file.

Of course, as luck would have it I spent all day creating this project. Any
ideas how to recover from this problem?

Try to change mpp extension to xml extension. then try to open that file...
