Can't preserve formatting in pasted text

C

Charles

In Word 2008, Version 12.0.1, OS X 10.4.11, MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 233
GHz, when I copy and paste text in a .doc file (Compatibility Mode),
sometimes the little dialogue box that lets you preserve source
formatting appears only for a fraction of a second, then goes away. Even
if I try to click on it, I am never fast enough.

This behavior is not consistent--sometimes it happens when I am
replacing text, other times when I am just pasting text.

The files seem to work fine in 2004.

Anybody else seeing this? Maybe I have an incorrect setting somewhere?

Hello Charles -

The setting that controls the feature is Word> Preferences> Edit - Cut &
Paste Options, but if there's a check on "Show Paste Options buttons" it
should *always* work, if not checked it should *never* work:)

Do you leave Word running for extended periods of time? If so, does this
seem to be more likely to happen after a long launch session or does it
happen even soon after a fresh startup?

Are you noticing any other unusual or erratic behavior?

Thank you for this info.

I have the default settings for both 2004 and 2008. Also, the problem
happens even after a fresh startup.

I haven't noticed any other unusual or erratic behavior.

Hi Charles:

The smart button should remain visible as long as you do not move the
insertion point.

As soon as you click somewhere else in the text, it should hide.

However, if you hover the mouse pointer over the area of the paste, at any
time before the next paste, the button should re-appear.

Hope this helps

Unless you've struck a key since pasting;-) at least that's how it works
here.
