Can't print from Word

T

Terry Henderson

I am new to the Mac. I loaded the software for the HP All-in-one 7110 and
other programs print just fine, ex., from Safari. But when I try to print from
Word (Office 2001), it says: "Printer Model Not Selected. The printer cannot
print because you have not specified a printer model. Select the printer icon
in the Chooser. Then select your printer, click the "Setup" button, and select
your model in the Type menu."
BUT when I get into Chooser and click on the HP All in One icon, there is
no list from which to choose.

Ah hah! That one I can answer: I have a PSC2510 :)

During setup, the printer software should have scannned for and found your
printer, then prompted you to "install this printer?" naming the printer.
If it didn't you need to run the Uninstaller from the HP CD and start again.

This time, you MUST plug in your printer and ensure that it is powered up.
And you MUST disable both your firewall and antivirus before installing. If
you do not run the uninstaller first, nothing will work.

There's some extra steps if you are connecting via WiFi, are you?

Cheers

On the Mac, if the installer does not find the printer on the first attempt,
the installer will fire up and continue to nag you at each wake from sleep
until you physically choke the damned thing. To prevent this:

To connect with WiFi, you must first login to the printer with an Ethernet
cable and set an SSID (network name) and encryption key in the printer's
internal web server.

You must then disconnect the Ethernet cable and allow the printer to connect
to the wireless network.

Then you must disable your firewall and provoke the HP driver to rescan for
the printer.

This time, it will find it, and will continue from "Install this printer."

If you are doing this with a Windows XP box, the installation will crash at
about that point, and offer to back everything out for you. DO NOT LET IT!!
It has by that stage installed the driver and the printer. If you
force-quit the installer at that stage, the printer will work :)

Cheers

Go on, John, don't modestly hang back -- tell us! ;-)
