cant put subform into another subform's footer..

i'm trying to place another subform into an existing continuous subform's
footer, but it either crashes access when try to save, or if I can save it if
set to single form...but it will not open...
I know Access (2003) does not like a subform within a continuous form, but
was told I could into form footer..
