can't reinstall Project Pro 2003

I'm attempting to reinstall Project Pro 2003 on a PC that had it once before
using an .msi file. I get an error message stating that another version is
already installed and that installation cannot continue until I remove the
existing version by using Add/Remove Programs. However, no versions of the
application are listed anywhere in Add/Remove Programs.

When I try to reinstall the app using setup.exe instead of the .msi file, a
message states it's already installed and asks if I'd like to update the
installation. If I select "No," then nothing happens. When I select "Yes,"
then the setup kicks off but doesn't actually install anything. I never get
prompted for a repair or reinstall. I don't get prompted to enter the path
for where I'd like the files to be installed. Nothing. The setup window
disappears after a few minutes, but Project never installs.

I figure there's something buried in the registry that I need to get rid of
but don't know what registry settings I should be looking for, specifically.
I've spent several hours trying to fix this issue and have run into a wall.
I don't know how I can get Project Pro 2003 back onto this PC without
completely reimaging it, which seems like overkill. Please help! Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
