Can't save linked file with available resources

Hi, and thanks for reading my thread.

(I'd seen similar threads here to what I'm experiencing, but my specific
situation seemed different enough to warrant its own thread. I hope you'll
be able to advise me, please, about what I might do to resolve this.)

I have an Excel workbook, with data roughly 30 columns wide and 8600 rows
tall. Many (but not all) of these cells link to other individual cells in
one (1) of two (2) other worksheets that contain data only (no links
elsewhere).

Also, that main workbook has roughly 30 chart sheets, each with a single
full-size chart. In addition, I have Excel set, generically, to "Update
remote references" so that, as soon as it's opened, it automatically updates
cell references that are linked elsewhere. It's also set to "Save external
link values" as it's important that those updated values be available, such
as for a Word document that links to one of those charts.

While this setup has worked very well for me for quite a while, I recently
reached a point where I'd get error messages like, "Excel cannot complete
this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other
applications", when I tried to save/close it. The resulting file that DOES
save ends up having a number of "#REF" marks in some data-holding cells.

I recall recently trying to partition this large workbook into several
component parts, but that didn't seem to fix this. (Maybe I wasn't doing it
quite right?)

Still, might you please have any thoughts as to how to not get error
messages like that?

Please advise, and thanks.

Bram
