Can't see graphics in word documents ~ help please

I'm using word 97. If I receive a word doc with graphics via email or other
means I am unable to view the graphics. The box that the graphic should be
in appears but no pic.
Any ideas for a cure please.

Tools | Options | View: clear the check box for "Picture placeholders."
