What can cause drawing objects to no longer be selectable?
When I open a particular document, there is a text box in
it I want to get rid of. I select it and hit Delete. All
is good. But then when I add any more drawing objects
after that, they cannot be selected with the mouse.
A text box will let you edit the text inside it, but the
selection box around it will only ever be the type made of
diagonal lines, not the one made of dots. The handles
show up, and I can drag and resize the text box, but
hitting delete will only delete the contents.
A rectangle simply cannot be selected at all. I can't
even right-click on it and Cut. Normally, immediately
after drawing a rectangle, it is automatically selected
and shows its handles. But in this case the handles only
show for a split second after drawing the rectangle and
then disappear. Then I can't even select the rectangle by
drawing a box around it with the "Select Objects" cursor.
I'm not dealing with overlapping objects or anything
complicated. The document is a 1-page form template with
bookmarks and fields.
I'm baffled. How can the deletion of one text box render
all other drawing objects unselectable?
