can't uninstall office XP on win2k server?

When we try to uninstall Office XP on the Windows 2000
server (so that we can clean install Office 2003 pro) in
the add/remove software interface, we are told that the
windows installer was not registered?

Another error message suggested that we remove office XP
using the add/remove software function, despite the fact
that this was what we were using.

One error message we got was the windows installer 1077
error?

please excuse xtreme newbie - I'm used to Debian systems

I ended up just deleting the files, and using the windows
Installer CleanUp Utility (kb#290301) to remove the office
xp listing...office 2003 pro seems to be working ok, too...
