can't uninstall / reinstall Office 2003

My Office files somehow got messed up. I didn't think it was any big deal,
just uninstall and reinstall the program (I have the disk and product key).
When I try to do this, though, I get the message:
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I have search the microsoft support page, but found nothing that helped.
Any ideas?

I'm also having this problem and figured I'd just completely uninstall and
start over. However, I can't see to uninstall. I tired the installation
cleanup provided in the link. The utility appears to run fine, but doesn't
fix the problem.
