Can't upgrade to Office 2007 and I do have Office xp

I had Office xp on my Windows xp system. Just yesterday I did a clean install
to Windows Vista Home Premium. I inserted my the Office 2007 CD and it said
that an upgradable version was not detected. So I reinstalled the Office xp
onto my new Windows Vista, thinking that it would work. I activated the
Office xp install and hoped that I could proceed with Office 2007. But it
didn't work :(

When it asks me to click the browse button to locate a previous version of
office, I insert the Office xp CD and click the drive where the CD is
located. Then I get an error message saying that the path does not lead to a
qualifying upgradable product.

I inserted the Office 2007 disk onto my Sony Vaio with windows xp and Office
xp and it immediately recognized that office xp was on my computer but
cancelled the installation because I want it on my windows vista computer.

So why can't I install Office 2007 on vista????

Please post any info on this. I am having the same problem with Office
2007. I have Windows XP with all the updates. All of my software is
legal. Please don't tell me I just threw away my money and I now own
Microsoft Office 2007 shelfware.

Thanks.

Hi X.,

What prior edition of MS Office do you have? Office 2007 upgrade editions should recognize prior version Office CDs except for
Office XP and Office 2003 Student and Teacher Editions (not upgradeable).

MS software has a 45 day money back return policy :)
