Caption Numbers include a,b,c

D

Deborah Mowry

I am formatting a long document with many figures in each chapter. I tried
to convince my client to keep the captions numbers sequential but she
insists that some have to contain abc's.
In otherwords, they could be Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3a, Figure 3b,
Figure 3c, Figure 4. The reason is that particular figure upon creation had
to be split into 3 subgroups. I understand the desire to do this, but how
can I get Word to do this.
I will need to cross-reference them too (so want them to update if need be)
and create a Table of Figures.
Will I just have to manually make type the a then the Figure 3b and 3c?

Thank you
Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Word maintains figure numbering, plus cross-referencing and tables of
figures, via SEQ fields. You'd have to add the SEQ field sequence after
inserting the Fig caption for the a, b, c manually. Depending on what kind of
cross-reference you need (numbering only, or with caption) you might need to
insert two cross-references.
