caption on the side of the figure?

I would like to include a caption on the side, rather than below the
figure.

I normally include the figure and its caption in a frame. When I change
the picture layout to 'square', in order to allow for the caption to
sit next to it, rather than underneath, the frame disappears and all
the layout gets messed up.

Does anybody know any way around this? Many thanks!

Mmmm. As soon as you change from "inline with text" the picture can no
longer be in a frame, which explains why what you're trying won't work.

Generally, a two-column, one-row table will do the trick :)
