Excel 2007

I am using the following formula to help highlight which cells are within
date, out of date or complete but I cannot get the cell to change colour. I
would like when a R is entered it changes to red, A to amber and G to green.

=IF(COUNTA(A6:C6)<3,"",IF(COUNTA(I6)=1,"G",IF((G6-6)<TODAY(),"R",IF(AND(COUNTA(G6)=1,COUNTA(I6)<1),"A",""))))

Hope ya can help!

Your question is not clear. What is the criteria for changing color? Date
values (in which range) or letters R, A, G entered (in which cell)? Please
give your data layout and an example!

1. Select the cell
2. From menu Format>Conditional Formatting>
3. For Condition1>Select 'Cell value is' Select 'equal to' enter R. Click
Format Button>Pattern and select your color and repeat the same for condition
2 and condition 3
5. Hit OK
