change format of custom field

I inherited a project and a custom field will not accept alpha characters but
with our new ID system it will need to. How do I change it?

Right click on the column header. Select customize fields. Set it the way
you want.

Hi SeeFar,
If the custom field is a number field, it will not accept alpha characters.
Data entered into a custom field must match the data type of the field. If
the custom field is a number field, you will need to insert a Text field,
copy and paste the values from the number field and then you should be able
to add your alpha text to the numbers.

Well, I was trying to avoid creating a new field - too spoiled by Excel I
guess. Thanks for the post, I created a new field and entered the new
ID's.

You aren't really creating a new field. All the possible fields already
exist. You are either using them or not. This is different from excel where
any cell can be anything.
