Change how Outlook shows attachments?

Can anyone explain how Outlook decides to show attachments? Ordinary
Word or Excel files.

Sometimes the attachment is inline with the message, actually showing
the file icon (ex: word.doc) in the body of the email.

Other times it will show in the message header, with a paper clip icon.

Now, a user complains, nothing shows at all! The attachmant is there,
and by going to File|Save Attachment I can get to it.

How to control this?

Thanks for any insight or leads!

Check the format of the emails. Rich text will show attachments in the body,
HTML or plain text should show it either at the bottom of the email or above
the subject (this may be subject to Outlook version).

This happens when you select Rich Text as your message format.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

All the emails are HTML, as they are all interoffice emails.

What about when an attachment does not show up in either the header, in
the body, or below the body in its own pane?

In this incident, the user has always seen them in the body. Suddenly,
they are gone (still there as above, but no easy access). Parsing
through old attachment-having emails, most of them show same thing,
missing attachment, except for one that has a normal background (no
fill). Most are sent from same few people and they all love custom
backgrounds...yuck.

Is this related? It's Outlook 2000 for the user, Outlook XP (2002) for
the senders, btw.
