change recurring task symbols

I am trying to change the milestone "triangles" my recurring task to a "Bar".
I inherited this file and this has made it difficult. I don't really
understand the bar styles definition dialog box and I think this is where I'm
hosed. When I put in 100% the symbol on the rollup disappears even though I
have the box checked. I only want to see the rollup. Does anyone know what
I'm doing wrong?

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

Firstly, I suggest you make the recurring task into a task by giving it a
duration, which will then show the bars.

If your recurring task has a duration it will be a bar. A milestone has no
duration and thus is simply a point on the calendar - bars extend from point
"A" to point "B" - with no duration there's no "A" and "B" to draw the bar
between. If you specify each occurance of the task to have zero duration
when you create it, you get a string of diamonds. If you say it has a
duration, say 1 hour set aside for a meeting every Friday afternoon, then it
will show up as a string of bars.
