Change Resource mid task

Chris

A task has been reassigned to another resource but the initial resource has worked on a part of the task and the new resource completes the task. When I print the "reminders notification service report" the original resource and his original task prints on the report as an unfinished task. Is there a way to get that off the report?

Chris:

THe best way to handle this is to edit the task so that
the original resource is assigned his portion and the new
resource is assigned the rest. For instance:

20 hours of task time
Original resource works 5 hours
New resource is assigned with 15 hours remaining

Assign the original resource 25% of the task, and the new
resource the remaining 75%.

Hope this gets you what you need.

The doesn't quite do it, John. You'll show both resources assigned to the
task for its entire duration even though the one you're replacing has in
fact gone away part the way through. Using the Replace button on the
resource assignment dialog doesn't have that problem.

But you still have to manually adjust, even using the Replace button,
because Project then offers you only two choices, increase duration or
increase work, neithr of which is what we want here. You have to go
the the Task Usage view and edit the old resources hours back to 15
and the new one to 45.

That's not the way it works on my copy of P2003. All settings
out-of-the-box default everything, fixed unit tasks, standard calendar.
Create task Fidget starting Monday with 5 days duration. Create 2
resources, Fred and Ethyl. Assign Fred to the task 100%. Task usage view
shows Fred scheduled 8 hours per day for 5 days for 40 total hours. Now
mark the task 40% complete. Display actual work, shows Fred actual work 8
hours per day Mon and Tue, still scheduled 8 hours per day Wed Thur Fri.
Now switch to Gantt chart and use the taskbar button to display the Task
Assignment window. Select Fred, click Replace, and select Ethyl. Now the
assignment window shows them both on the task 100% BUT the duration has not
changed. Switch over to task usage view again. It now shows Fred's work at
a total of 16 hours for both scheduled work and actual work, 8 hours each
per day on Mon and Tue. But now there's nothing in scheduled work for him
for the rest of the week. Instead, Ethyl shows blank on Mon and Tue but
picking up on Wed Thur, and Fri shows her scheduled for 8 hours per day, a
total of 24 hours to her.
