Changes cell function to answer

When I have formatted a cell as Normal and then go enter a formula such as
+33/365 (using a plus at the beginning of the formual instead of an equals
sign) Does anyone know why excell automatically changes the formula to the
answer of 0.9041095?? I no longer have the formula in the cell just the
answer? It only happens if I have that formatting and use the +sign (which
is easier to use because it is on the number pad) Any help is appreciated!

The formula is actually there. The formula bar show the formula, the cell
shows the value.

Not the case - in my sheet the formula bar shows the value and the formula is
no where to be found!

What do you mean when you say you have the formatted a cell as "Normal"?
Where do you set that?

That doesn't explain why it changes the formula entry to the answer. Even if
I have formatted the cell as Normal and then enter a formula such as
"+1000*33/365*5" - the division part of the function is changed to its answer
and the rest of the function stays as is! Very strange,

If you close excel and restart it in safe mode

Close excel
windows start button|Run
excel /safe

and open your workbook and reenter
+33/365

Do you see the formula in the formula bar?

If yes, maybe you have a helpful macro that's trying to do a conversion--maybe
make a cell all caps or all lower case???

And that macro isn't written to not touch formulas.

If no, I don't have another guess.

By the way, most excel users would enter: =33/365
(since excel will change that leading + to an equal sign anyway)

(You're a (former???) user of lotus?????)
