Changing a Linked Porject to an Inserted Project

D

Don

Currently I have a MS Project 2007 project which links to another MSP
2007 project. Is there a way to change the state of the linked
project from 'linked' to inserted? The end result I am trying to
achieve is to make a copy of the project in one file instead of the
two current project files ("master" and "linked").

Any suggestions on reaching the goal will be greatly apprecaited!

Thanks!

Don,
When you say the two projects are linked do you mean that one subproject
contains tasks with external predecessors/successors to tasks in the
other subproject and vice versa? If the answer is yes, then the only way
to achieve what you want is to either break all links, combine the files
as a static master and then re-establish the links, or use a VBA macro.
If you only have a few links, the manual approach may be viable but if
you have multiple links between the files and want to automate the
process, I do have a macro that does exactly what you want. If you are
interested you can contact me direct at the address below. Be advised,
the macro is not freeware.

If I am misinterpreting what you have and what you want, please
elaborate with more details.

Hi Don, hope you are well.

As you insert a project into a master project, there is a 'Link to Project'
check box enabled by default. If you remove clear this check box, I believe
it will acheive what you are after. Below are some instructions I found on
how to do this on the Microsoft Office Project Home Page
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/project/HA101640601033.aspx?pid=CH100667191033).

1. Open the project that you want to become a master project.
2. On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
3. In the Task Name field, click the row below where you want to insert the
project.
4. On the Insert menu, click Project.
5. In the Look in box, click the drive or folder that contains the project.
6. In the folder list, open the folder or subfolder that contains the
project that you want to insert.
7. Click the project that you want to insert.

To UNLINK - If you don't want to update the subproject with changes from the
original project, or if you don't want to show changes from the subproject in
the original project, clear the Link to Project check box.

8. Click Insert.

Good luck, I hope you are able to find a resolution here.

Thanks everyone! Despite my cryptic desciption (MS Project newbie),
the interpretations and solutions were right on.

Thanks again!
