Hi Kas,
I am importing Excel lists to my contacts in outlook 2003 and have
experienced MANY problems, the worst of which is that Excel won't let
me change the Name Range in the lists and therefore I can't import the
list properly. No matter how often I delete and retype the new name,
it returns to the old name.

Maybe the workbook or worksheet is protected?
Or maybe there is more than one name (local and global?).

Consider downloading the Name manager (by Charles Williams, Matthew
Henson and myself) from:

www.jkp-ads.com

or

www.bmsltd.ie/mvp

or from:

www.decisionmodels.com/downloads.htm

It will give you more insight and control.
