Hi Don Schmidt (Retired (e-mail address removed)),
in the Microsoft® newsgroups
you posted:
|| Suppose you buy a computer with OEM software and the fan fails: One
|| would think you could replace the fan with new without needing to
|| buy any new software. OK here?
||
|| Now lets suppose capacitor C28 fails on the motherboard: One would
|| think you could replace capacitor C28 without needing to buy any new
|| software. Still OK?
||
|| Now shorten this from "War and Peace" size, we're in a position to
|| replace the entire motherboard (I just took a welding torch to the
|| original motherboard) wouldn't that fall under the same reasoning as
|| above?
||
|| Bottom line: as long as I retain something of the original computer
|| (power cord?) wouldn't one be legal to use the same software as long
|| as the original "box of parts" was no longer using the software?
Don, you can change up to 4 internal hardware items before MS will require
you to contact them for activation.
