How do I install my OEM version of Publisher 2002 that I
purchased from Westgate Software from my old PC to my new
PC,
Do I uninstall first, how does MS know that I uninstalled?
I cannot afford to purchase another copy, but if I
install I only have
45 times to use.
Please help!

The idea of OEM software is that it is licensed only on the computer that it
is purchased with.
You are not allowed to transfer the license of OEM software to another
computer (or at least, that's how I've seen it. Correct me, someone, if I'm
wrong here)

You are correct Ed. The consumer would need to purchase a new license.

Hi Don Schmidt (Retired (e-mail address removed)),

|| Suppose you buy a computer with OEM software and the fan fails: One

|| Now lets suppose capacitor C28 fails on the motherboard: One would
|| think you could replace capacitor C28 without needing to buy any new

||
|| Now shorten this from "War and Peace" size, we're in a position to
|| replace the entire motherboard (I just took a welding torch to the
|| original motherboard) wouldn't that fall under the same reasoning as
|| above?
||
|| Bottom line: as long as I retain something of the original computer
|| (power cord?) wouldn't one be legal to use the same software as long
|| as the original "box of parts" was no longer using the software?

Don, you can change up to 4 internal hardware items before MS will require
you to contact them for activation.

Did you get a separate cd of office/publisher or was it already installed
(or part of an overall system restore)? If the former (separate CD) the
situation could be different from what my colleagues have suggested and I
believe I would try the internet validation process on the new computer. If
it won't validate (and it gives you the aforementioned reason) there's your
answer. If it validates, smile. If it doesn't, try the telephone
method--there may be some upgrade process. I can't see how it would hurt to
try. This, of course, is my own suggestion and not that of anyone else
(well, my big cat Tosh thought it was worth trying, but what does he
know<G>)
