I think Office still only comes in one language at a time, so if you
want a different one, you need to acquire another copy.

I suspect that the serial numbers are universal though. You can try to
borrow someone els'es copy of Office in English and install it on your
Mac with your serial number.
(properly uninstall the Japanese version using the uninstaller first
though - and I susoect you'll have to trash some of the preferences and
templates too),

Thanks for your speedy reply.
Is there not an option to select the language during the installation of office?
I live in japan and wanted to eventually change the language of the whole system over into Japanese once i got used to everything but wanted to use it in english first.
Is that not possible?
Thanks
David

When you install OSX the first thing that comes up is a prompt asking
what language you want your system to run in. I'm not sure if you can do
the same thing retroactively once you're up and running, or if you need
to reinstall the system. If you reinstall the system you should be able
to get it torun in the language of your choice.

Right, but that doesn't do anything to Office.

No, you don't need to reinstall the system. Changing the system
localization just requires switching a preference setting and takes
about a minute.

Not yet, not in Mac: Office.

PC Office can do this, and they re building the function into Mac Office,
but it is not there in this version. And maybe not for next version,
either.

Cheers

There is a HUGE difference with Office though.
The System was installed with all the localizations in (actually that's
an option in the installer when you install from the DVD).

Office has the proper structure for that now, but it only ships with one
localization.
The UI doesn't adapt to the language used for the system like many other
apps do.

It doesn't ship multilingual,
