Changing Values in cell doesn't update the total

R

Ramnek

Hi

This one is strange

I have totalled a range of cells. Now when I change a
value in one of the cells in the defined range, the change
is not reflected in the total

Could somebody please help

Thanks in Advance

Ramneek,

Short answer, long shot,

If the cell is formatted as text, the value will not be included in the total.

Hi
another reason could be that you have disabled automatic calculation.
does hitting F9 change the total. If yes goto 'Tools - Options -
Calculate' and enable automatic calculation

Another guess ..

Calculation mode could have "inadvertently"
been set to "Manual" ?

Try pressing F9. Does it now compute?

To change / check calc mode settings:
-------------------------------------
Click Tools > Options > Calculation tab
Check what's showing under "Calculation"
Click to set as desired > OK

But note that the calculation mode of each Excel session
is dictated by the calc mode of the first book opened
within the session.

For example, if the first book's calc mode is "Manual",
then the mode for all subsequent books opened in the same
Excel session (i.e. until / unless Excel is exited) will
be "Manual", irregardless of their earlier saved modes.

Hi,
I met with this by today.
Select the range. Format -> Cell -->Number -->(Here, the
numbers might be saved as TEXT.) Change it to numbers, and
re-enter.
Then the formula will treat the numbers, as numbers. Other
wise, it will be treated as "TEXT"

Bye
