character limit in Task column

It appears there is a limit to the number of characters you can type for a
Task. Is there any way to get around this, or a different solution to this? I
have a few of tasks for which the description is about a paragraphs.

I guess you are trying to put the task description in the task name field.
Task name should be unique and short. You can use the note section of the
task to mention the description. in case you use note column for something
else, then you can custom the text1 field to have the task description. can
display the column if you want the description to be visible.
