Charts and custom colors in Word XP

David Harrison

Could anyone please answer a few questions about custom colors in Word
XP charts (column and pie)?

1. Can I define colors with custom RGB values in a chart? If so, can
they be saved to the palette somehow?
2. Is it possible to have a 'default' color for new slices/columns?
3. Can I define a default sequence of colors for new slices/columns?

Many thanks,

David Harrison

You can save a custom chart that would store all these settings. On the menu
bar, choose Chart | Chart Type. Select the Custom Types tab. Click the
Add... button. This allows you to define the active chart as a custom type.

Many thanks, but I don't see how that helps one define custom colours
for use in a chart.

Indeed. I was assuming it was possible to create custom colors in MS Graph
as in the rest of Office, but I see that this applet has not kept pace with
the rest of the app. You can select from among a reasonable variety of
colors and apply various fill effects and then save a custom chart type
using these colors, but in fact you cannot define custom colors. Sorry.
